How to synchronize newly added HomeKit devices

Important:
With version 1.3.0, the underlying data model for import/synchronization has been fundamentally revised. For this reason, there are now two export formats since this version, which differ significantly. On the one hand, there is the export based on the old data model, and on the other hand, there is the export with the new data model. It is recommended to use the new export format/data model or switch from the old to the new model because more commands and statuses are available here. However, the switch of the sync format may result in potentially incorrect commands or statuses in remote controls, and they may need to be reassigned. This particularly affects devices that have been split into multiple devices, especially those with multiple services (e.g., a hub with alarm functions and simultaneously a light). The update from the old to the new version cannot capture this, resulting in the accurate replacement of only one of the old devices.

If, contrary to expectations, individual functions or devices are no longer available in the new export format that were previously present, it is possible to export again in the old format. However, switching from the old format to the new and back to the old cannot guarantee an exact restoration of the original state. Especially in conjunction with the above point (devices that have been split into multiple devices), it may be necessary to reassign individual commands or statuses in the remote controls in this case as well.

Each time you make changes in your Home app like adding/removing HomeKit devices or scenes, it is necessary to export your HomeKit data through the VIZ Designer app again. This can be done in the setup of the app:

  1. Open the setup (e.g. with a two-finger swipe gesture from bottom to top).
  2. Go to the settings (cog symbol) and choose „HomeKit“. Now login with your mediola/VIZ Designer account.
  3. Finally use the „Export HomeKit data“ button to export the new device configuration.

Once you have finished the steps above, the changes will be available in the VIZ Designer desktop application after running a synchronization there.

Important:
Only running the synchronization in the VIZ Designer desktop application without exporting your HomeKit data in the VIZ Designer App again, is not enough to integrate the new devices/ scenes to the VIZ Designer desktop application.
